You will remember in my last budget blog that I mentioned we were in Chulilla and that most of our time there crossed over into this months budget. Chulilla was ace! We got to hang out with our friends Jules and Iain which was great, we acted like kids who had never seen pastries before. They fed us on more than one occasion which we are really grateful for and they showed us some true Scottish hospitality by having to break into their own apartment to let us stay. Why Iain didn't just keep the back door key in the car still remains an unsolved mystery to us all :-). We also made some really lovely new friends whilst we were there and we got the chance to practice the little Spanish we know, nada.
We were home for four days and then our buddies from the UK Jon and Redders arrived. They hired a car and made their own way here, just! Via a left turn into oncoming traffic from the busy motorway into the pitch black through the orange groves and across the rail tracks(good old Sat nav). We had such a great time with them. We showed them the sights of Cuenca(blog to follow) managed to time it right for a Star Wars march through the medieval city. Took them climbing, Jon being the crusher of the day seeming like a total natural on the rock(Jason reckons it was his magic shoes). We visited Valencia where we ate lots of delicious tapas food and went to a footie match, 2-1 Valencia last mintue goal from Negrado!. We also showed them around our local area. Unfortunately I was sick the whole time they were here but we all still managed to have a good time. We were both totally exhausted once they had left!
Only two weeks to go until my oldest and dearest friend Sally arrives! I can not tell you how excited I am! I am looking forward to not stop chin wagging when she arrives!
So in this months budget we spent a little less than last month which is good news. As you can see from the figures above we are still below our £30 per day budget. Travelling really does not need to be expensive, we are still spending far less than we would at home to live and the extra bonus is we can do whatever we want with our days!
€192/ £148 ACCOMMODATION 16%
We spent 12 nights camping at El Altico in Chulilla. Usually we don't have any accommodation costs but we took a three week break from the volunteering we are doing. Considering we had this cost in our budget I don't think we did too badly this month.
€217/ £167 GROCERIES 18%
One of the many good things about staying at El Altico was that we were able to cook for ourselves, which helped to keep the costs down. This months grocery cost is a lot less than last months and it is even lower than our first month here. We did need to purchase some extras this month too, such as medication for Jason because he got a nasty bite in Chulilla. I reckon getting some freebies from our friends definitely helped to keep the costs down.
€17/ £13.07 TRAVEL 1%
We went to Valenica for the day with our mates Jon and Redders. We showed them the sites, took them to try local cuisine and we went to watch Valencia against Sevilla(thanks for the treat Jon!). It was a fantastic day! Valencia won 2-1 with a last minute goal.
€53/ £40 FUEL 4%
We managed to reduce our fuel consumption this month after using quite a lot last month. Included in this month was driving home from Chulilla too which is approximately 56 miles from our house.
€48/ £37 ALCOHOL 4%
Now I was expecting this figure to be much higher with us being away for 13 days and then with the arrival of our friends. Then I remembered that I was sick and Jason only likes to have a few. If you are drinking Spanish beer or vino tinto it really is not expensive.
€38/ £29 COFFEE & CAKE 3%
We spent a lot of time in bakeries and cafes this month. We had to let our buddies try some local Spanish pastries such as empanadas and all the yummy sweet treats.
€131/ £101 EATING OUT 11%
We ate at a lot of god places this month with Jon and Redders. We tried amazing tapas in Cuenca. We ate paella, delicious sardines and other food in Valencia. We certainly felt fat after their visit and our time with Jules and Iain in Chulilla! It was all worth it though.
€53/£41 ACTIVITIES 4%
When we were in Chulilla we bought the new climbing guide book(another to add to our collection). Also just before we left for Chulilla Jasons tyre split on his road bike, so when we returned we had to purchase another.
